About Sky Schools
For over ten years, SKY Schools (formerly YES! for Schools) has been teaching simple, yoga based breathwork techniques to students, educators and parents in Milwaukee. Our program, taught as part of a Social Emotional Learning curriculum to encourage a pro-social mindset. When individuals are empowered to remain calm under stress, and feel valued by their community, rates of violence naturally decrease. Donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of the proceeds go to support stress-free, violence free schools

Special Guests
Keynote Speaker- Dr. Michael Allen, Educational Leadership Consultant

Dr. Michael Allen earned a bachelor of arts in sociology and a master's degree in Elementary Education from Valparaiso University (Valpo). He also earned a Post Master’s Principal Certification from Chicago State University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Loyola University, Chicago. He is currently the Principal at Oakton Elementary School in Evanston, Illinois. Over the course of his career he has specialized in emotional intelligence, equity, human resources, school improvement and climate and culture. Michael served as a facilitator for the Illinois Principal Association’s Administrator Academy, focusing on teaching school leaders how to successfully implement comprehensive mindfulness practices in schools. Michael, however, does not measure success or accomplishments through awards. The life lessons that he has learned along the way have transformed his passion and commitment to living with purpose. Michael’s mantra is that your dreams are not real unless you are willing to sacrifice everything to make them become a reality.

Appearance by - Dahveed Nelson, Founding Member of the The Original Last Poets
The “Grandfather of Rapport” Dahveed Nelson (formerly David Nelson), one of the founding members of The Last Poets, Influential spoken word artists, poets and commentators, The Last Poets are considered one of the forefathers of Hip Hop. The 1970's spoken word collective's politically conscious poems over beats laid the foundation for what would eventually become one of the most important influences in early hip hop. Throughout the last 20 years their influence can still be felt with their tracks being sampled by The Notorious B.I.G, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Today, Dahveed Nelson seeks to usher in a new world and observes that in seeking their blackness, the black community is seeking higher consciousness. He shares personal experiences as a spiritual seeker, social psychologist, and advocate of the dawning golden age.

Visions From The Village Panel Discussion
Moderated by - Shannon Reed, Director of Innovative Strategies for Boys & Men of Color, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County
As a promise driven leader, Reed leads in the portfolio work for the required shifting of culture in Health, Education, Financial Stability, and Mentoring systems. Reed’s ability to take a vision and make it a reality through strategic and empathetic development is what’s changing the narrative. Reed works to expand the United Way’s partnership with community-based organizations, advocating to collectively counteract the most critical issues that plague boys and men of color, specifically, in the Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County’s low-income communities. Reed brings a range of expertise on local and national issues-most recently with the Milwaukee Area Workforce Funding Alliance.
